Hubs, spoke, and rim selection
Precise spoke length calculation
Wheel design and symmetry
Wheel dynamics (theory and physics of the rotating wheel)
Wheel building isn’t rocket science, but it can be addictive!

Naturally, students with some prior wheel building experience or those who have taken our Certificate in Bicycle Maintenance courses would have a strong foundation to build on. That said, no prior mechanic is experience required but you should be proficient in reading, writing and speaking English. Preferably 16 years and older.
Students who meet the certification requirements will be awarded Bike School Asia’s Certified Wheel Builder certification.
Too complicated, too likely to get it wrong, too easy to get someone else to do it. All fair points, but wheel building is actually not difficult. A knowledge of wheel building can be invaluable to any cyclist who wishes to do his or her own maintenance and repair.
According to Sheldon “Wheels” Brown, a “mechanic” who has not mastered this basic skill cannot be considered to be a fully-qualified professional, and will always feel inferior to those who can list wheel building among their skills. Master wheel building and you’ll be in the league of extraordinary mechanics!
